Here's the train making its way down the valley near Aguas Calientes, following the river.  The train is the only way to get to the area where Machu Picchu is (with the exception of hiking, such as along the Inca trail).  There are no roads, so you cannot drive.  (I took this telephoto shot from Machu Picchu later in the day)
