Kinderdijk, The Netherlands, 2012

One of the polders here at Kinderdijk served as the inspiration for a folktale and legend you have probably heard.  During a serious flood in 1421, this particular polder didn't flood.  Somebody was searching the area to see what survived and found a wooden cradle floating and wobbling.  He watched as the cat moved back and forth to keep the cradle from taking on water, and upon approaching the cradle he found a baby quietly sleeping inside it!  The story was published as "The Cat and the Cradle" in English.
