The great Anglo-Irish explorer Ernest Shackleton is buried in the cemetery at Grytviken. His most famous expedition set out in 1914 and his ship 'Endurance' was lost in the ice. His 28 crew members all survived being marooned for a year-and-a-half on the ice and islands of Antarctica. This is Bob Burton, an Antarctic historian with over 30 books to his name. He was a lecturer aboard our ship on this trip, and here he gave a wonderful tribute to the great leader who managed to get his entire crew home safe, Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton. |
