Machu Picchu, Peru 2006

The clouds lift and give us our first look at the incredible site.  These structures have not been rebuilt!  They are original, built by the Inca Empire in the mid-1400's.  Invisible from the valley below and set in a remote part of the Andes, plus often hidden in the clouds, Machu Picchu is the only significant Inca site to escape destruction by the Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century.
