| This was the largest fortress in the Middle Rhine Valley between Mainz and Koblenz. Rheinfels Castle was started in 1245 by Count Diether V of Katzenelnbogen. While today much of the castle is a ruin, the outer buildings are a luxury hotel, wellness center, and restaurant. |
