Galápagos Islands

There are two types of Frigate birds in the Galápagos:  The Great Frigate and the Magnificent Frigate.  These are Great Frigate birds which are large, with iridescent black feathers (the females have a white underbelly), have long wings (male wingspan can reach 6 feet) and deeply-forked tails.  The males have inflatable red-colored throat pouches, which they inflate to attract females during the mating season.  Here, two males are competing for what they perceive to be a good position.
