Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 2006

Escadaria Selaron (Selaron's Steps), in Rio's Lapa neighborhood.  There are 215 steps covered in ceramic mosaics using the colors green, blue and yellow (same as the Brazilian flag).  Named after the artist by that name, Selaron's Steps also frequently depict a pregnant African woman (see the orange motifs on the left).  When asked about this recurring theme, the artist usually replies "a personal problem of the past".
