Park Avenue formation is composed of Entrada Sandstone and is more than 150 million years old. It was formed as pressure from layers of rock compressed the buried sand into sandstone. As erosion removed the rock, vertical slabs like these called 'fins' are revealed - they are the first step in arch formation.
