| Jackson Square, in the center of New Orleans's Vieux Carre (Old Square) is of course named after the hero of the Battle of New Orleans (War of 1812) and later president of the United States, Andrew Jackson. His statue on a horse stands in the center of the square. The St. Louis Cathedral in the background dates to 1794. |
