The contemplative man seated with chin in hand is one of the world's most recognizable sculptures.  Auguste Rodin initially named his sculpture "The Poet".  Rodin made a first small plaster version around 1880, and the first large-scale bronze cast was finished in 1902.  Today, there are about 25 monumental size bronze casts of the sculpture in museums around the world, including this one in Kansas City.
