Martha's Vineyard 2003

These "gingerbread homes" are all crowded around the center of a park known as Wesleyan Grove.  Starting in 1835, religious meetings ('campmeetings') were held here and people leased small lots to pitch their own tents.  In the late 1800's, the tents were replaced by hundreds of these wooden cottages, now cutely decorated, painted and landscaped.
