| Each of the letters in the sign are 50 feet tall. Erected in 1923, the sign originally spelled "Hollywoodland". In 1949 the "land" portion was taken down. You can't get any closer than this anymore -- previous pranksters have temporarily altered the sign to read "Hollyweed", and "Go Navy" (before a Rose Bowl game). |
