These plaques on the Glen Canyon Dam indicate that Lake Powell is named after Major John Wesley Powell who led scientific parties down the Green and Colorado Rivers in 1869, and that the dam was dedicated by the First Lady, Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson on September 22, 1966.
