Giraffes are ruminants, which means they chew their food and swallow it so that it can be softened within the stomach. Then they regurgitate the semi-digested mass (now known as cud) and chew it again.  What is most interesting about this is that when we got close to the giraffes we could actually see the cud traveling up and down those massive necks!  It was really odd.
