| This is the view from Robben Island back to the city of Cape Town. The "tablecloth" of clouds has gotten thicker since we departed. Can you imagine trying to escape from the prison on this island, knowing that you would have to swim across this 12 kilometer expanse of the Atlantic Ocean infamous for rough seas and dangerous currents? By contrast, Alcatraz Island is less than 2.5 kilometers from the mainland in the protected waters of San Francisco Bay. |
