| The magnificent Winter Palace in St. Petersburg was the residence of Russia's rulers from Catherine the Great (1762) to Nicholas II (1917). There are 2,000 heavily decorated windows in Russian Baroque style and a roof balustrade topped with statues and vases. Today, the only parts of the palace open to the public are the parts that form portions of the Hermitage Museum. |
