| It was here on Mactan Island on April 27, 1521, that one of the defining moments in the history of the Philippines took place. Ferdinand Magellan landed here with 60 of his best soldiers, but Chief Lapu-Lapu and his men defended their island and fatally wounded Magellan by spear. |
