Waitomo, New Zealand
The girls look at a "no trespassing" sign placed in the cave in 1988 by J.T. Holden. The cave was originally opened to the public in 1904, but the New Zealand government claimed ownership and operated it until 1988. A descendant of the Holden family had the cave closed under a legal and financial dispute. It was closed until 2005 when the dispute was settled and the government began allowing visitors once again. |
