Waitomo, New Zealand

This Maori totem pole at the gate to the Waitomo glow worm cave is known as "Te Poupou a Tane Mahuta".  It marks the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the cave in 1887.  Tane Mahuta is the Maori god of the forest, and the carvings are of local animals including the glow worms.
