Maldives, 2012

Malé is the capital and most populous city in the Republic of the Maldives.  In the center of the North Malé Atoll, the population in 2006 was just over 100,000 - fully a third of all people living on the 192 inhabited islands (there are 1,190 total islands in the Maldives).  As you can see, the entirety of the small island is built-up.  The highest point in all of the Maldives is 2.4 meters above sea level (less than 8 feet), leading to warnings that if sea levels continue to rise as a result of global warming, the entire country could be underwater in a matter of decades.
