Nara, Japan 2005

Well, here it is -- the Daibutsu (Great Buddha).  It is a 53-foot tall bronze statue weighing 330,000 pounds and it took five years to cast (after several failed attempts).  The largest bronze Buddha ever cast, it and the Todaiji Temple complex were so costly that they crippled the economy and led to a peasants' revolt.  Again, Pam is standing on the left to give some perspective to the Great Buddha.
