The Gion District of Kyoto is the stomping grounds of the Geisha and Maiko (apprentice Geisha).  They're certainly not hard to spot, in their colorful kimonos with stiff obi's (sashes) and tall, klunky wooden shoes.  This one was on the street right behind the ryokan we stayed in (see in the background on the right).
