This amazing site is Varanasi's Manikarnika Ghat -- where cremations are ongoing 24 hours a day.  Funeral parties carry their deceased for a brief immersion in the Ganges, then place the body on a pyre for the ritual preceding the actual cremation.  You can see at least four bodies are being cremated at this moment, and up to 400 per day are done at this ghat alone!  The remains are then dispersed into the Ganges River.  Hindus desire this because the Ganges is believed to hold the power of salvation in every drop -- and can release them from the cycle of rebirth.
