The sign Pam is standing next to explains that the three rock-cut caves and carvings range in date from the 2nd century B.C. to the 12th century A.D.  The caves take their name from a massive stone elephant which was partially destroyed by the Portugese and has been moved to Victoria Gardens in Bombay.
