As we drove along the Snæfellsnes peninsula in western Iceland we had a great view of the Snæfellsjörkull volcano, regarded as one of the symbols of Iceland.  This mountain is known as the setting of the novel Journey to the Center of the Earth by the French author Jules Verne.
