The Blue Lagoon is not a natural geothermal spa -- there is a nearby geothermal power plant, and the superheated water used to drive the turbines that generate electricity then goes to a heat exchanger to provide heat for the municipal hot water heating system.  The "leftover" water is then pumped into this rocky lava field and creates the lagoon.
