The Chain Bridge is one of Budapest's most famous landmarks. The magnificent suspension bridge the river Danube between Pest and Buda, which were, in the mid-1800's, still separate cities. Pam stands next to one of two lion sculptures guarding each bridgehead. Legend has it that the sculptor, Marschalko János forgot to carve out the lions' tongues. A boy made a remark about it at the opening ceremony, and the sculptor became so distressed that he jumped off the bridge into the Danube! |
