Rhine River Gorge & Castles 2012

Directly opposite Rheinfels Castle on the east side of the Rhine, this is Maus Castle, begun in 1356 by Archbishop-Elector of Trier Bohemond II.  Unlike Rheinfels and Katz castles nearby, this one was never destroyed but did lapse into disrepair before being restored in 1906.  It did suffer some damage during WWII but was again repaired.
