| The town of Mainz is at the beginning of the Rhine Gorge where we are headed to see the castles. Mainz is across the Rhine from Wiesbaden and is famous as the home of the invention of the movable-type printing press. The first books printed using movable type were manufactured in Mainz by Gutenberg in the early 1450's. You can see that the Mainz Cathedral steeple is undergoing reconstruction. |
