Bamberg is a city in Bavaria with a population of about 70,000. It's historic city center is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is Bamberg's unique "Altes Rathaus" or Old Town Hall, built in the middle of the Regnitz River, accessible by two bridges. Legend has it that the bishop of Bamberg would not grant the citizens any land for the town hall, so they drove stakes into the riverbed to create an artificial island on which they built their town hall. |
