Mont St. Michel 2011

Mont St. Michel is a rock island connected to the mainland by a half-mile causeway and is surrounded by a vast mudflat.  It was built in 1878 to allow pilgrims to come and go despite the tide and the mud.  Unfortunately, the causeway caused the bay to silt up.  This ambitious project to restore the island to its natural form is underway, including a new causeway which will allow water to flow underneath.
