This may be the most picturesque corner of Vannes. This is a bend of the river Marle that flows along the foot of the ramparts of the city. The half-timbered structure in the foreground is the Garenne washhouse. Though it looks older, it was built between 1817 and 1821. The numerous washerwomen in Vannes worked under this gallery, and the chimneystacks show where the laundries were located. |
