This is the second remaining gate in the medieval walls of Bordeaux - La Porte Cailhau (the name may come from "calhaus" which were stones used to ballast ships, or could recall a bourgeois medieval family who gave several mayors to the city). The high-style Gothic Renaissance architecture dates to the 15th century. |
