One of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture in the world, the Cathedral of Notre Dame was begun in the second half of the 12th Century, and this western façade was not completed until the mid 1240's. The three entry areas on the ground floor are known as the Portal of the Virgin, the Portal of the Last Judgment and the Portal of St-Anne. Above them are 28 statues that represent the Kings of Judah and of Israel, the ancestors of Christ. |
