| Also bordering Plaza de Armas is Castillo de la Real Fuerza, a well-preserved 16th-century fort with a broad moat. It is the oldest fort in Havana and is actually the oldest surviving fort in the hemisphere - but it was pretty much a failure as it was too small and too far from the harbor entrance to be useful. |
