Zadar

This terracotta and white exterior Mediterranean building is deceptive.  It is St. Simeon's Church which was originally built in the 5th century and reconstructed in the 16th and 17th century.  Alterations continued until as recently as 1980.  One of Zadar's highlights is inside - the sarcophagus of St. Simeon is a masterpiece of medieval goldsmith work.  Known as The Silver Casket of St. Simeon, the coffin is made of cedar and covered with gold-plated silver reliefs.
