Rovinj

From Rovinj's square the girl walked through the Balbi Arch, built in 1679, to gain access to the narrow streets of the old city.  This seemingly simple but elaborate arch was once one of the town's seven gates.  At the top of the arch on this side (the outside) there is a Turkish head, and on the inside there is a Venetian head.  On the right and left are the coats of arms of the once prominent Balbi family, and at the top is the Venetian lion again.
