Capuchin monkeys are highly social animals and live together in groups of 6 to 40 members.  The word capuchin derives from a group of friars named the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, an offshoot from the Franciscans who wore brown robes with large hoods covering their heads.  The first explorers to Central America thought these monkeys resembled those friars.
