Costa Rica 2009

This little fella is the Strawberry Poison-Dart Frog.  The bright colors displayed are indicative of the presence of various toxins present in the frog's skin.  They aren't deadly to humans, although a field worker has described intense burning and mild swelling after getting skin secretions into a cut on his arm.  Their skin has bitter, toxic, alkaloid secretions which discourage predators.
