Eroded over centuries by local unique wind and water conditions, the limestone karst formations around Guilin create bizarre "Stone Forests" with many subterranean caves.  The green hills, clear water, bizarre rocks and caverns are felt by many to provide some of the most beautiful scenery in the world.  Many artists have been inspired in this region.
