Angkor Wat 2007

The main temple of Angkor Wat viewed from the east.  It was built in the 12th century as a funerary temple for Suryavarman II.  It honors Vishnu, the Hindu deity.  The temple is tied the universe in general - the central tower evokes Mt. Meru with its surrounding peaks, bounded by continents (the lower courtyards) and then the oceans (the moat).
