Punakha, Bhutan

This woman is Layap, an indigenous people inhabiting the high mountains of northwest Bhutan in the village of Laya (Gasa District).  The most distinctive feature of the Layap women's dress is their conical hat made out of darkened bamboo strips ending with a sharp point to the sky.  They are a semi-nomadic people who rear yaks and dzos (yak and cattle mix).
