| The restored telegraph station buildings mark the first white settlement in Alice Springs. This was an important relay station to send telegraph messages from across the continent and back to England. Construction of the Overland Telegraph Line from Port Darwin in the north to Adelaide in the south is recognized as one of the great engineering accomplishments of the 19th century. |
