| It's easy to see why the Aborigines attach such spiritual significance to Uluru (Ayers Rock) -- it is an awe-inspiring sight, rising more than 1,100 feet from the flat surrounding plain. Two-thirds of the monolith formation extends below the surface. It is composed of a type of sandstone known as "arkose". |
