The tango is Argentina's most famous export. Born in the slaughterhouse district of Buenos Aires, it wasn't originally accepted by society here. After it was introduced in Paris in the early 1900's, its popularity grew and by 1913 it was an international phenomenon in Paris, London, and New York. Only then did the Argentine elite accept it with open arms, and developed it with national pride. This couple danced beautifully at a local tango show we took in. |
